African Journals Online (AJOL) is the world’s largest and pre-eminent collection of peer-reviewed, African-published scholarly journals. Historically, scholarly information has flowed from North to South and from West to East. It has also been difficult for African researchers to access the work of other African academics. In partnership with hundreds of journals from all over the continent, AJOL works to change this, so that African-origin research output is available to Africans and to the rest of the world. AJOL’s Mission: to increase online visibility, access and use of African-published research output in support of quality African research and higher education. It provides free online hosting for over 500 peer-reviewed journals from 31 African countries, using open source software. AJOL’s partner journals cover the full range of academic disciplines with particularly strong sections on health, agriculture and African studies. AJOL hosts about 509 journals and 109,737 full texts.
Bioline International is a not-for-profit scholarly publishing cooperative committed to providing open access to quality research journals published in developing countries. BI’s goal of reducing the South to North knowledge gap is crucial to a global understanding of health (tropical medicine, infectious diseases, epidemiology, emerging new diseases), biodiversity, the environment, conservation and international development. By providing a platform for the distribution of peer-reviewed journals (currently from Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Egypt, Ghana, India, Iran, Kenya, Malaysia, Nigeria, Tanzania, Turkey, Uganda and Venezuela), BI helps to reduce the global knowledge divide by making bioscience information generated in these countries available to the international research community world-wide. On Bioline, the total articles available are about 39, 336. Bioline International is managed by scientists and librarians. It is a collaborative initiative between Bioline Toronto (management office) and the Reference Center on Environmental Information, Brazil (host computer and software development). The project is supported by the Digital Scholarship Unit at the University of Toronto Scarborough and by the support of sponsoring libraries and members.

The service requires registration and is cost-free. The articles are sent as email attachments so as to reach individual scientists who do not have access to sufficient bandwidth to download material from the Internet in a timely manner and/or cannot afford the connection. eJDS is a programme of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy. It is run by the Marie Curie Library, with the participation of leading scientific publishing societies and companies.

The site is loaded with many resources and links to several sites. It is an open source that is supported by several organizations who post information on current researches. It is an inbuilt online forum where users can also post questions and receive answers from the scholars.
NATIONAL ACADEMY PRESS (NAJ)
The National Academies Press (NAP) was created by the National Academy of Sciences to publish the reports of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, operating under a charter granted by the Congress of the United States. The NAP publishes more than 200 books a year on a wide range of topics in science, engineering, and medicine, providing authoritative information on important matters in science and health policy. The institutions served by the NAP are unique in their ability to attract leading experts in many fields to join panels and committees charged with providing policy advice on some of the nation’s most pressing scientific, technical, and health-related issues. NAP offer more than 5,000 titles in PDF format. Almost all of these PDFs can be downloaded for free by the chapter or the entire book.
